Hola Mexico Film Festival Comes Back To LA

LA latino music festival, filmakers

As with almost every big event in 2020, the Hola Mexico Film Festival went ahead last year in an online format because of coronavirus. It is back in its original form in a way that coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month. According to the organizers, there is no better way of capturing the communal occurrence of being together to show the diversity and power of cinema from Mexico. The festival ran through September 25, 2021, and had La Plaza de Cultura y Artes as the venue for its opening ceremony and closing event.

There were 21 Mexican films at the festival, including works of the Documental, El Otro México, Mexico Ahora, and Nocturno genres. For your information, the genre El Otro México has films with Mexican narratives challenging the existing state of affairs, whereas Nocturno contains horror and offbeat stories.

The mentor program ‘Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today’ of Hola Mexico was also a noteworthy part of the festival. The program connected Los Angeles-based Latino filmmakers with film industry leaders to boost the Latino staff in showbiz.
